Explore the topicsHow we evaluate evidenceHow we approach evidence
Before turning an idea into a recommendation, we ask what was studied, who participated, how outcomes were measured and what limits apply.
Sources & context
Each research article should identify its sources and study type. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, longitudinal studies and trials are evaluated according to the question they address and their quality.
Conclusions with limits
A relationship between two variables does not by itself show that one causes the other. We distinguish observed findings, hypotheses and interpretations, and explain what remains uncertain.
A guide to reading critically
- Identify the question and the population studied.
- Review the method, sample and measurements.
- Look for limitations and alternative explanations.
- Check whether other research agrees or differs.
- Distinguish what the data shows from a proposed application.
